Autumn Bliss Savasana Bars ~ Sumptuous Spoonfuls #magic #cookie #bars

If you’re not into yoga, you might be wondering what the heck a “savasana bar” is … you see, at the end of a yoga class, you settle into final relaxation (savasana). The entire purpose of the asanas (yoga poses) is to prepare you for savasana. Especially if it is an intense yoga class where you work your body to its edge, by the time you get to savasana, your body is beautifully exhausted and ready to rest and it feels so totally amazing to lay on your mat and let go of all the crap that is happening in your life and just be still. And silent. And breathe. If you haven’t experienced it, it is a state of total bliss.

That is what these bars taste like on your taste buds. They are just the right mix of healthy and decadence to satisfy your tastes, the right amount of chewy ooey gooey-ness, the right mix of fruity, cookie and nutty tastes with just a bit of crunch and a bit of salt to balance out the sweet … it all comes together to bring you to a lovely state of culinary bliss. An ooey gooey sweet middle with apricots and cranberries, pecans and almonds, white chocolate, vanilla, toasty marshmallows and a little sprinkle of sea salt on a buttery white cookie crust … oh man. It’s heaven.

I recommend closing your eyes when you take a bite and paying close attention to all the textures and flavors happening in your mouth. If you eat your savasana bar slowly and mindfully, fully cherishing and experiencing every moment, you only need a small bar to satisfy your senses. Be sure to take a drink of something lovely between each bite to cleanse your palate and prepare for the next bite. Chai, coffee or wine are good choices. Take your time, enjoy it, let your mind settle and relax.

Even if you’re not into yoga, these bars are pretty dang amazing.  Make sure to use high quality ingredients. It’s worth it. Trust me.

Scale

For the crust:

  • 3 cups crushed vanilla cookie crumbs
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 3 oz. white chocolate, melted

For the top:

  • 1 cup dried cranberries (a.k.a. Craisins)
  • 2 Tablespoons Jack Daniels whiskey
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup chopped dried apricots

  • 3/4 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup caramel syrup (or more)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 14-oz. can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Spray a 13x9x2 inch pan with cooking spray.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, mix the crust ingredients until well mixed. Press into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the dried cranberries with the whiskey and let them bathe for at least 15 minutes, tossing a few times to mix.
  4. Sprinkle the crust with the oats, cranberries (reserving any leftover whiskey), apricots, chips and nuts, then drizzle liberally with caramel syrup and the maple syrup. In a small bowl, mix the condensed milk with any remaining liquid from the cranberries and vanilla and drizzle that over top as well.

[…] prefers the peanut butter ones … and yeah, those are wonderful too. Then there’s the Autumn Bliss version with cranberries and apricots and a vanilla cookie crust. And those toffee chocolate bars. […]
