Chocolate Caramel Pretzel Turtles ~ Sumptuous Spoonfuls #easy #holiday #recipe

These pretzel turtles are the easiest thing to make and they are incredible! I wanted to make the pumpkin spice ones with fancy little chocolate drizzles like Tastes of Lizzy T did, but the pumpkin spice kisses are nowhere to be found. I had to adapt my plan.

It didn’t matter one bit because these are just perfect. Decadent. Sweet. Salty. Chewy. Crunchy. Totally satisfying. They’ve got everything going on and they are so perfectly cute and bite size, and yet they take only a few ingredients and a few minutes to make.

Chocolate Caramel Pretzel Turtles

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 5 minutes
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: as many as you like!

Ingredients

  • Waffle-style pretzels (the little square ones)
  • Caramels (store-bought or homemade)
  • Chocolate candy melts (they look like large chocolate chips-get high quality chocolate if you can find it)
  • Nuts, toasted (pecans and almonds both work nicely – and/or you can use the broken parts of the pretzels)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Pick out the whole pretzels and line them up in rows right next to each other on the baking sheet.
  2. Peel the caramels if they are wrapped, and cut them in half sideways. Set a caramel on each pretzel.
  3. Put the baking sheet in the oven and set the timer for 4 minutes. This is just enough time to melt the caramels.
  4. Pull the baking sheet out of the oven. Take a candy melt and set it on top of each caramel and push down gently to smush the melted caramel into the pretzel a bit. Continue until all the caramels are smashed.
  5. Put the baking sheet back in the oven and set the timer for 1 minute. This is just enough time to melt the chocolate.
  6. Pull out the baking sheet and set a nut or bit of pretzel on top of each turtle before the chocolate has set. I used sliced almonds and chopped pecans because that’s what I had, plus I did some with broken pretzel bits (for the non-nut eaters), but whole nuts would be even better.
