Italian Garlic Bread Crisps ~ Sumptuous Spoonfuls #easy #crunchy #snack #recipe

There’s an annual event that several of my yoga friends and I do together once or twice a year. We call it “Wine & Design” and it involves, yes, wine, but also lots of local artists … and they convinced me years ago that I needed to do the food. The first year my food was just a tray of goodies … some homemade scones and such. It grew and grew and now I’m offering complete meals, truffles, fudge, chocolate pistachio truffle berries and … a returning favorite, something I have to do every year … the fruit & marinated cheese plate. I always serve the fruits and cheeses with a few of these bread crisps on the side, something I came up with because when you marinate a lot of cheeses, you have a lot of lovely seasoned olive oil.

All that is involved in making these flavorful little crisps is to brush both sides of each slice of bread with garlicky Italian herb olive oil and then bake. I like to flip them half-way through to make sure both sides brown nicely.

They come out lovely light brown, crispy and crunchy with a great garlic Italian flavor. I wasn’t going to bring them back after the first time I served them, but friends at Wine & Design have raved about them and so now they are a staple, one of those things I HAVE to make every year. I was frustrated with myself this year that I never wrote down the recipe … so here you go, future self, here’s the recipe for those lovely little bread crisps!

You can serve these little crisps with cheese or dips … or on/alongside soup or crushed on top of salads or casseroles or vegetables. Top them with scrumptious things for a crunchy crostini. Or just munch on them all alone, because they’re crunchy and tasty and wonderful all on their own.

Italian Garlic Bread Crisps

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • About 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 24 cloves garlic, smashed with the side of your knife and peeled
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Granulated garlic
  • 1 loaf french bread, sliced in 1/4-inch slices

Instructions

  1. Put the garlic in the olive oil and let sit for 15 – 30 minutes to infuse the oil with garlic. Spray two cookie sheets with cooking spray.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400 F. Brush both sides of each piece of bread with the garlic infused oil, then sprinkle lightly on both sides with Italian Seasoning and just a bit of granulated garlic.
  3. Bake at 400 F. for about 10 minutes or until the toasts are crisp and golden brown.

Notes

These little crisps are great served on a fruit & cheese plate, or use them along side (or on top of) soups or crumbled on salads. You can also grind them up to make tasty Italian breadcrumbs.

Hi Andrea!

Thanks for asking. These cheesy crisps are amazing with a pizza dip, a spinach artichoke dip, mushroom pate, muhammara (Mediterranean red pepper dip), hummus, or heck, even a good hearty, thick Italian tomato sauce.

Here are some of my favorites:
