Japanese Yum Yum Sauce ~ Sumptuous Spoonfuls #spicy #creamy #steakhouse #sauce #recipe

My friend describes this sauce as “the nectar of the gods” … and I have to agree, it is really the awesomesauce of sauces. Spicy, creamy, garlicky, wonderful … if you have not yet experienced this sauce in your life, you really need to get on it!

Whilst I picture it here with sushi, the uses for this yum yum sauce go way beyond sushi … this sauce is delightful for dipping everything from chicken to fish to veggies … and spreading on sandwiches and burgers and … well, whatever else you can imagine. I think it would even be good with scrambled eggs, because why the heck not?

Bonus: it’s super easy to make. Just whisk together the ingredients and add sriracha to your liking. I am guessing you could probably swap out more of the mayo for yogurt to lighten up the recipe further, but I wasn’t quite ready to be so bold on my first yum yum sauce expedition. I was fortunate to find a recipe from a tried and true foodie that I love. Melissa is such a sweetheart and her recipes are amazing!

Japanese Yum Yum Sauce

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: About 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 cups of sauce 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup light mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup plain, nonfat yogurt
  • 1/4 cup ketchup or chili sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons granulated garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/41/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 14 teaspoons Sriracha hot sauce (to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a small mixing bowl, whisk all ingredients together. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.
  2. Use as a sauce for sushi or a dipping sauce for steak, chicken, fish or veggies or as a sandwich or burger spread.

Notes

The sauce is delicious right away, but even better after it has been refrigerated for a couple hours.
